"Zhoushui" TBM Successfully Launched

On November 15th, 2024, the tunnel connection project between Hongqiao Reservoir and Dasha Reservoir in Zhoushan City officially commenced excavation work. The "Zhoushui" hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM), developed by Tangxing Technology, was successfully launched. Specifically designed for complex geological conditions, the TBM is equipped with a heavy-duty hard rock cutter head capable of withstanding uniaxial compressive strengths of up to 140 MPa. The total planned excavation length is 4,200 meters.
The project traverses transitional terrain from low mountains to hills, with significant mountain height differences. The stratum is primarily composed of tuff with varying degrees of weathering, presenting complex and changeable geological conditions. The "Zhoushui" TBM features a wear-resistant cutter head structure with exceptional rock-breaking capabilities, ensuring high-efficiency excavation even under alternating ground conditions.
In terms of design, the "Zhoushui" TBM emphasizes advanced intelligence and automation. It integrates cutting-edge technologies in mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, lasers, and controls, enabling seamless operations for excavation, support, and slag removal. Through an optimized propulsion system and auxiliary support shoe system, as well as front and rear shield binocular measurement and control systems, the TBM offers precise guidance and real-time attitude control. This ensures safe and efficient excavation and accommodates a minimum turning radius of 400 meters. Additionally, the TBM incorporates features such as wind power and watt-electric interlocking, a hazardous gas alarm system, and a dual-channel air supply and dust removal system, effectively monitoring and mitigating construction risks while ensuring worker safety.
On the environmental front, the "Zhoushui" TBM adopts advanced materials and processes to minimize noise, vibration, and dust emissions. It applies energy-saving technologies to optimize excavation parameters and reduce energy consumption. The equipment also utilizes a modular design and standardized components, significantly reducing maintenance costs and complexities.
The tunnel connection project from Hongqiao Reservoir to Dasha Reservoir is a key initiative to optimize local water resource allocation. It aims to enable two-way water supply and expand water resource dispatch capabilities.
